You’re Not Broken. The Dungeon Is.

You’re Not Broken. The Dungeon Is.

You’re Not Broken. The Dungeon Is.

If you were broken, you wouldn’t still be functioning. You wouldn’t be answering emails at 40%. You wouldn’t be dragging yourself through work, family, obligations, and still calling it “fine.” Broken things don’t grind XP. What you are is inside a dungeon.

The lighting is bad. The floors shift. The encounter table refreshes without warning. And the narrator never shuts up. It sounds like you. That’s the trick. It rolls initiative before you wake up, casts What If at 2 a.m., and auto-equips Everyone Else Is Doing Better the moment you open your phone. Because the voice is yours, you assume it’s law. It isn’t law. It’s architecture.

The Brain Monster isn’t a mood and it isn’t one bad thought. It’s infrastructure. Walls built from memory. Traps wired to pattern. Rooms that regenerate when you think you cleared them. You’re not fighting something outside the dungeon. You’re navigating something that runs on your wiring. That’s not a moral failure. That’s design.

Most advice focuses on fixing the player. Try harder. Wake up earlier. Download a better app. As if effort alone stabilizes shifting terrain. But if the monster is the dungeon itself, you don’t “defeat” it. You learn how it generates rooms.

That’s what Houses & Humans: Brain Monster Campaign is: two books bound back-to-back. One side is the Campaign—quests, tracking, survival mechanics for moving through hostile terrain without pretending it’s friendly. Flip it over and you get the Monster Manual—attack types, favorite lies, casting times, weak spots. Same battlefield. Two orientations. Because the monster isn’t standing in the dungeon. The monster is the dungeon.

If your brain narrates like a villain, if you function in public and glitch in private, if you’ve been told to “just try harder” in a hallway that keeps rearranging itself, you’re not broken. You spawned into loud infrastructure. That distinction matters.
